Participants will continue their usual asthma medications and will also take two daily doses of either the study medication or a placebo for 12 months (52 weeks). Additional procedures include physical exams, vital signs, blood and urine testing, lung function testing, electrocardiograms (ECGs), and asthma and health questionnaires. Total participation will last approximately 14 months with office visits every 4 to 8 weeks and 1 phone call with the study staff. Eligibility for the study will be determined by the study doctor following two in-person screening visits to the clinic.
