Under new legislation that came into force in Algeria in 2025, government agencies have been given the authority to restrict access to websites containing illegal content. The authority to initiate blocking is vested in the Ministry of Communications and Telecommunications, the industry regulator, the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ARPT), the courts, and law enforcement agencies.

According to the law, telecom operators are required to comply with the orders of authorized bodies and promptly restrict access to websites disseminating inappropriate information. Specifically, the ban applies to resources containing overtly provocative material, including images of nude women, which directly violates the norms of morality and public order established by law.
