Study Description: The purpose of this clinical study is to evaluate the effectiveness of an investigational intradiscal injection for the treatment of chronic low back pain and related-disability caused by disc degeneration. You may be asked to attend a screening visit and complete an MRI to determine if you are eligible to enroll in the study. If enrolled, you will receive an intradiscal injection of either the study drug or a placebo into 1 or 2 discs of your lower back. This procedure will be completed in an outpatient setting and the study doctor will administer the injection under x-ray guidance. After the procedure you will spend 30-45 minutes in a recovery area before being discharged. Your total participation will last approximately 13 months and you will be asked to attend 1 screening visit, 1 procedure visit and 5 follow-up visits. During these visits, you will complete various diagnostic and laboratory tests. Participants who qualify for the study will receive study-related care at no cost and may be compensated up to $700 for time and travel. The doctor’s office conducting the study will be able to provide you with more information about the study requirements. Qualifications: - Been experiencing pain in your lower back for a period of 6 months or longer - Pain scale must be at least a 4 out of 10 - Cannot also experience chronic leg pain below the knee - Tried conservative therapy to help with your pain in the last 3 months or more - Cannot have had a nerve ablation, targeted heat therapy, or implanted spinal cord stimulator - Cannot have had surgery on your spine -Cannot have ever fractured your lumbar spine - Cannot e diagnosed with osteoporosis, osteopenia, or gout - Back pain cannot be the result of a workplace, personal, or medical injury and currently involved in legal litigation or part of a work compensation claim
